Leadership development in education

The NHS Leadership Academy’s philosophy is simple – great leadership development improves leadership behaviours and skills. Better leadership leads to better patient care, experience and outcomes. Our purpose is to work with our partners to deliver excellent leadership across health and care to have a direct impact on patient care. We offer a range of tools, modelsprogrammes and expertise to support individuals, organisations and local partners to develop leaders, celebrating and sharing where outstanding leadership makes a real difference.

With that said, we are working in partnership with our host organisation, Health Education England (HEE) to better understand the current landscape of leadership development in undergraduate education and would really value your help. We’re interested to see the extent to which you include any forms of leadership development in your undergraduate programmes and courses that prepare students for a health or social care career. This is not from the position of a deficit model, quite the opposite, HEE would like to see where good practice is happening across all the professions.
