NHS Leadership Academy- Leadership development programmes Step 1 of 7 14% Delivery of our Nye Bevan programme and Elizabeth Garrett Anderson programme and all their component parts will shortly be going to tender as the contract with current partners is coming to an end. This gives the NHS Leadership Academy the perfect opportunity to retain the best of the programmes and redevelop any areas that need attention or may be out of date. The NHS has undergone huge changes since the programme was developed and we want our award-winning programmes to remain at the forefront of leadership development. We would greatly appreciate you taking for 5 to 10 minutes to provide us with your answers to the following survey. Q1. The Leadership Academy is not currently in a position to offer fully funded programmes of this nature, however, we understand how financially-challenged the NHS is currently and so we would like to gather your view as to what would be affordable in terms of senior level leadership development: Nye Bevan programme*£7,000 (Current cost)£4,995 approx.£2,500 approx.Unable to provide fundingUnable to comment£7,000 (Current cost)£4,995 approx.£2,500 approx.Unable to provide fundingUnable to commentElizabeth Garrett Anderson programme (2 year part-time MSc)*£6,000 (Current cost)£4,995 approx.£2,500 approx.Unable to provide fundingUnable to comment£6,000 (Current cost)£4,995 approx.£2,500 approx.Unable to provide fundingUnable to comment Q4. Our evaluations tell us that one barrier to people accessing and continuing on the programmes is the length and the time commitment. Do you think this is: Nye Bevan programme - 18 days away from the organisation over 12 months*Too many days away from the organisationAbout rightExpected there to be more days away from the organisationCannot comment as I don't know enough about the programmeToo many days away from the organisationAbout rightExpected there to be more days away from the organisationCannot comment as I don't know enough about the programmeElizabeth Garrett Anderson programme - 22 days away from the organisation over 24 months*Too many days away from the organisationAbout rightExpected there to be more days away from the organisationCannot comment as I don't know enough about the programmeToo many days away from the organisationAbout rightExpected there to be more days away from the organisationCannot comment as I don't know enough about the programme Q5. Would you be more willing to support participants to apply for the Nye Bevan programme if it were shorter – i.e. 6-9 months? [Note: The Elizabeth Garrett Anderson programme is a part-time MSc and therefore shortening it is not an option at this stage]* Yes It would make no difference. It’s other factors that influence decisions to send staff on programmes or not Q6. Currently the programmes are delivered in Leeds at the National Academy headquarters. Is this location a barrier to people attending from your organisation?* Yes No Q7. In terms of location, in your opinion which of the following do you believe would be most appropriate?* 2 regional hubs i.e. North and South 4 regional hubs i.e. North, South, East and West Q8. The Nye Bevan programme has international input from Erasmus University and the University of Pretoria [remote via video conferencing] and Harvard [Face to Face]. As an OD lead or commissioner, how attractive does this international element make the programme over other programmes you may consider?* Extremely attractive – it is the thing that makes it the programme of choice Very attractive – the international perspective adds value and gives the programme kudos Neutral – it's good to have in the programme but is not something that would put me off supporting applications if it wasn’t there It's not essential, the learning can be gained without the direct input from international faculty Remove it. There are more relevant case studies in the UK that should be included Q9. Currently the Nye Bevan programme is peer assessed with the support of a self-managed learning set advisor and participants pass or fail. How important do you feel it is to have the programme formally assessed?* Very important – it gives organisations confidence and reassurance that participants have met a set standard Important, but it needs to be ensured that the assessment is appropriate to the programme Remove all assessment, the emphasis is on what the participants gains from their learning Q10. From your knowledge of the programmes, which of the following do you believe would most improve the programme and bring it more up to date? (Please select as many as apply)* More input from in-post senior leaders/executives More input from systems leaders such as STP leads More input from social care/third sector perspectives More real experiences of patients and carers Inclusion of more current research and case studies More input on the political context of healthcare delivery More input from the national policy perspective, ALBs and regulators More advice on managing an executive career/talent management Cannot comment as I don't know enough about the programme Q11. Do you think participants would value a module on “Leading for Improvement”?* Yes No Don't know enough about the content of this to offer an opinion We are planning to run focus groups as part of the retender process. Would be happy to partake in further research including attending events?* Yes (Please provide contact email address below) No Email*
